We had an amazing stay at this cozy hostel! The staff were incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home. The Japanese-style room we stayed in was comfortable and gave us a true local experience. The futon was super soft, and we loved the rustic atmosphere. In addition, the neighborhood was nice and had great places to eat, like the recommended Nihonmatsu.
The bathroom facilities could use some improvement, as there was only one western toilet and it wasn't conveniently located near the sleeping area.

The staff and owner were incredibly friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to provide recommendations and assistance during our stay. The location was also convenient, with key attractions within walking distance. the hostel was clean and well-maintained, giving us a comfortable and quiet place to rest.
The lack of air conditioning made it difficult to sleep comfortably, especially during the summer months. This was a major downside as it affected our overall experience.

The breakfast option could be improved with more variety or English menus at the nearby food shops and vendors.

Best aspects of our romantic escape:
The atmosphere of the hostel was fantastic, creating a warm and social environment. the double room we stayed in was exceptionally clean and comfortable. - the staff, Orie and Hickory, were lovely and incredibly helpful throughout our stay. - the cooking facilities and fridge provided were of high quality, allowing us to prepare our own meals. - the hostel offered wifi in the rooms, making it convenient for us to stay connected. - the location was ideal, as it was only a 15-minute walk from the train station and close to the temple we wanted to visit.
Worst aspects of our romantic escape: In the middle of the night, we had to climb stairs to access the washroom.

They provided excellent recommendations for local attractions, and even took part in a curry week where different restaurants brought their versions of Japanese curry for dinner. the location of the hostel was ideal, being within close proximity to restaurants, shops, and public transportation.
Some guests mentioned that the limited bathroom facilities may become an issue during peak times.

The guesthouse itself was clean, cozy, and conveniently located. the atmosphere was great, and the double room I stayed in was very clean with wifi included. the cooking facilities and fridge were a big plus.
There was only one bathroom and one western toilet, which could be inconvenient when there were more people around. the old Japanese house design meant that the rooms were cold, although the giant quilts on the futons helped to mitigate this.

As a solo traveler, I stayed at 1166 Backpackers for 4 nights and had an amazing experience. The staff went above and beyond to make my stay memorable, organizing unique activities like a local fireworks festival and a hot pot evening. They also provided excellent recommendations for day trips and food. The hostel is conveniently located with a pleasant walk from the train station, passing by many shops and lights. I would definitely come back and appreciate the warm hospitality!
Can't recommend highly enough this hotel.
